You
could say that Adam was born with drumsticks in his hand; but
it's not true. Adam was born in the tiny village of Fremont in
the hot summer of 1980 (which still makes Nissa the youngest!)
Growing up in a shoe was a rough life for the Michaels' family.
Somehow they made the ends meet, and even provided musical intruments
for the children
Adam started playing piano at the age of five. Percussion studies
followed when he was in 4th grade. Adam never could make a stringed
instrument sound worth a darn - still true to this day! Guess
he's just good at pounding on things. A two-year stint with the
pipe organ was left behind in Adam's life. He was briefly the
house organist at a church in Cedar Bluffs, NE, and occasionally
at his home congregation.
Two years of his life were enjoyed at UNL studying music and
joining several "real" bands for the first time. Being
in several different bands and teaching lessons on the spoons,
castanets, and washboard caused Adam to lay off of the drums briefly
before joining Cactus Hill.
Outside of Cactus Hill, Adam is a knowledgeable arranger and
composer dabbling mostly in 4-part a cappella. Adam is a member
of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop
Quartet Singing in America and Lincoln Continentals Barbershop
Chorus. He is also going to become a certified music judge in
the society this summer. Weekly trips are taken to St. Joe Missouri
to sing with his quartet "The Buzz." Jazz gigs have
also provided a unique opportunity for him to display his talents.
Such Lincoln noteables as Tom Larson, Darryl White, Scott Vicroy,
and Peter Bouffard have called on his talents.
Adam likes to smile but is very picky about who he'll dance with!
